Mesmerizing Lanka

Step in to the beauty of Lanka

Here is my experience of Visiting Srilanka in Oct 2016 with my Family
No : of days : 6 ( 5nights and 6 days)
Places Visited : Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Colombo and Negombo
Trip starting from Chennai
Mode of travel : Air - International transfer / Road by Cab for local transfers
Day 1 - Chennai - Colombo- Kandy
Took an early flight from chennai to Colombo. our driver picked us from Colombo and we started our trip towards Kandy. Kandy is abig city at a distance of 115kms from Colombo. Enroute we cross through many small towns Wattala, Nittambuwa etc. Kandy is renowned for the temple of tooth relic, lake and traditional dance shows and botanic gardens. We reached around 2 pm , checked in to our hotel and visited the following places
: lake, botanic gardens , local market. got a chance to see their traditional performance as well. Got some indian vegetarian food in local market as well. very friendly people guiding us with all information whenever we seek information,

Day 2 - Kandy - Nuwara Eliya
We visited the Tooth relic temple in the morning and started our journey to Nuwara Eliya. Distance around 86 kms but the landscape is hilly , so it takes around 3 hrs. enroute scenery is awesome with tea plantations and lot of waterfalls. Reached Nuwara Eliya in the evening. Enroute we visited a tea factory and had a taste of the srilankan Earl grey tea, bought some tea for back home as well.

Day 3 - Nuwara Eliya
we started our day with the visit to the moon plains and cheese factory. weather was awesome and chilly. We also visited the Gregory lake and seetha devi temple which is believed to be ashok vatika during Ramayana period. It was divine to be there and could feel the positive energy. Weather was so pleasant and it was a wonderful experience to visit these places. Over all a day well spent

Day 4 - Nuwara Eliya - Colombo
We visited the huge Ramboda waterfalls and what a experience it was to see the falls even from distance. we also visited the hanuman temple enroute colombo but the temple was closed being the afternoon time. Temple has a vegetarian restaurent ran by Chinmaya mission not to be missed. We reached colombo in the evening and checked in to the hotel. We had no time visit any places that day , was a long day and had end with an early dinner

Day 5 - Colombo - Negombo
Colombo being a state capital has the hussle bussle of any metropolitan city. We visited the Gangaraya temple, Seema Melaka and a quick visit to independant square- the historical face of Colombo. Second half of the day was spent in Gale face along the beach. weather was hot n humid as expected to be. But its fun for kids to spend along the beach side. we had to leave to Negombo since our hotel was booked in Negombo that day. Negombo is around 38km . We visited the negombo beach at night..nothing but a normal beach.

Day 6- Negombo - Colombo Airport - chennai
Our last day in Negombo. Its a small town. Beach could been seen from my hotel top. Getting vegetarian food was a challenge in the area we stayed. we had our flight that afternoon and didnt have much time to visit so many places. Reason for choosing to stay in Negombo on the last day is because its closer to the colombo airport

Over all trip summary : must visit places are Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and a may be a day tour in Colombo. you can also add Bentota if you are keen with beach activites and watching Turtle hatchery. Sigriya if you are interested in sculptures and architecture, Yala if you are a wild life explorer
There are much more interior places to be explored and they seem to be like the unexplored gems of Srilanka . after all Sri lanka is also famous for their gem stones.
Visiting Ramayana related places is a seperate tour altogether and places are wide spread across all parts - North, south , east and west and that will be a seperate itinerary altogher.
